about us iranian petrocoke

The growing demand for energy and petrochemical products in the region has led to the need for a domestic producer of petroleum coke in Iran. Iran is a major oil-producing country, with vast reserves of crude oil, and petroleum coke is a byproduct of the refining process of crude oil. Currently, there is no domestic production of petroleum coke in Iran, which means that the country is entirely reliant on imports to meet its demand for this product

Advantages of Domestic Production

Importing petroleum coke from other countries can be expensive due to transportation costs, import duties, and other fees, and it can also be subject to geopolitical risks such as trade sanctions. In this context, the feasibility of having a company that produces petroleum coke in Iran is high. The country has the necessary resources and infrastructure to support such a project, including the availability of crude oil, skilled workforce, and access to international markets through its ports in the Persian Gulf. Moreover, the Arvand Free Zone in the Khuzestan province of Iran offers several benefits to companies, including tax incentives and simplified regulations.

The Project

Our planned state-of-the-art facility is currently in the engineering and budgeting stages, which means that there is still room for feasibility studies and optimization of the process to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective production of petroleum coke. Nevertheless, the establishment of a domestic producer of petroleum coke in Iran would contribute to the country’s energy security, create new job opportunities, and reduce Iran’s reliance on imports, making it a strategic investment for the country’s economy.

Production Process

Petroleum coke is a carbon-rich solid material that is produced as a byproduct of the refining process. It is typically produced using a process called delayed coking, which involves heating residual oil feedstocks at high temperatures in the presence of steam to break down the heavy hydrocarbon molecules into lighter fractions.

Delayed Coking Process

The delayed coking process begins with the preheating of the feedstock in a furnace, where it is heated to temperatures between 450-500°C. The heated feedstock is then transferred to a large vessel called a coke drum, which is pressurized to prevent the material from boiling or vaporizing. Once inside the coke drum, the feedstock is subjected to even higher temperatures of around 500-550°C, which causes the heavy hydrocarbon molecules to break down into lighter fractions. As this process continues, the coke residue begins to solidify and accumulate at the bottom of the coke drum, while the lighter fractions rise to the top.

Fractionation

The lighter fractions are then separated from the coke using a process called fractionation. In this process, the vapors are condensed and separated into different products based on their boiling points. The products that are produced include gases such as propane and butane, as well as liquids such as naphtha and diesel.

Coke Production:

The solid petroleum coke that is left behind in the coke drum is then cooled using water or air quenching, which causes it to solidify and become a hard, dense material. This solid petroleum coke is then removed from the coke drum using high-pressure water jets and transported to storage facilities or further processing.

Products and By-products of Delayed Coker Unit

We plan to produce a variety of valuable products and by-products that serve important roles in modern society.

Petroleum Coke

Petroleum coke is a byproduct of crude oil refining that is used as a fuel and reducing agent in steel production, a source of heat in cement manufacturing, and as a fuel in power generation.

Calcined Petroleum Coke

Calcined petroleum coke is a form of petroleum coke that has been heated to remove impurities and increase electrical conductivity. It is essential in the creation of aluminum and is used to make steel, graphite, and titanium

Light Fuels

Our planned delayed coker unit will produce several light fuels as byproducts, including naphtha, gas oil, and diesel. These fuels have numerous applications in various industries.

Maximizing Efficiency and Reducing Waste

By utilizing the byproducts of petroleum refining, we can maximize the efficiency and value of the refining process while reducing waste. These products and by-products play a crucial role in various industries and help to power modern society

Sustainability:

At Iranian Petrocoke Corporation, we are committed to sustainability and responsible environmental practices. We understand the importance of minimizing our carbon footprint and reducing waste, and we have implemented a range of strategies to achieve these goals. Once our project is operational, we will use state-of-the-art equipment and technologies to reduce emissions and improve efficiency. We will also implement strict waste management protocols to ensure that any waste produced is disposed of responsibly.
